HARRINGTON ONE OF THE FAVOURITES
Dan Harrington is definitely considered as one of the favourites for the WSOP 2011. In looking at the field of candidates as scientifically as possible we have decided to focus our attention on chess players. There are lots of similarities between chess and poker and those who are good at one tend to be good at the other. The amount of pressure a professional chess player comes under is every bit as daunting as that of a poker player and there are several players who moved from chess to poker and did pretty well.
HARRINGTON ELEVATED AS ONE OF THE LEGENDS
Dan Harrington was elevated to being one of the legends of poker. Born in Massachusetts in 1945, Harrington has been successful at most things he has tried; he was a champion backgammon player and a US chess master before he took up the game of poker. He also has his own business that takes up a massive amount of his time – focusing on Real Estate and the Stock Market.
HARRINGTON EXITS
Dan Harrington made an error in judgement and as a result had to exit from the tournament. Although Dan Harrington doubled up earlier on Day 4 with {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} catching a lucky ace on the turn against Joe Brandenburg's {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}, he ran into Ronnie Bardah's flopped straight when he moved all-in on a {K-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts} board holding {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}. The {K-Diamonds} fell on the river and Harrington made a hasty exit from the Amazon Room.
HARRINGTON NOMINATED
Phil Hellmuth is all set to be joined by a new set of poker stars like Dan Harrington after the 2010 Poker Hall of Fame nominees was announced. Considered one of the biggest honors in poker, the next step of the process will now involve the 16 living members of the Hall, as well as a panel of 17 media personnel, getting together to choose the eventual winner.
Created in 1979 by Benny Binion, the exclusive Poker Hall of Fame boasts 38 players and includes such legends of the game as Johnny Moss, Nick the Greek, Wild Bill Hickok, Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese, Stu Unga, and Phil Hellmuth.
HARRINGTON SEALS PASSAGE TO DAY 2
Day 1b of the World Series of Poker 2010 Main Event ended with Dan Harrington successfully making it into Day2b. One man who did somewhat better was James Danielson, believed to be the day’s chip leader with 201,050 chips. Just behind him are Filippo Candio on 167,300, Robert Miller on 155,225 and Jason DeWitt on 149,850.
Other players of note who sealed their passage into day2b include Gavin Griffin, Dan Kelly, Brandon Cantu, Johnny Lodden, Phil Laak, Jon Turner, Dan Harrington, George Lind and Gavin Smith.
HARRINGTON REJECTED FROM HALL OF FAME
The parameters for the introduction into the 2010 class of the Poker Hall of Fame were announced this week, with a big change coming in the voting requirements for induction.
Starting this year, the top two in voting will earn entrance to the Hall if they receive a simple majority, eliminating the 75 percent requirement that was previously used.
This change in voting represents a significant shift in approach for the Hall of Fame.
Among those turned away were Barry Greenstein, Dan Harrington, Phil Ivey, Tom McEvoy, Men Nguyen, Scotty Nguyen, Daniel Negreanu, and Erik Seidel.
